Use DVDShrink: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DVD_Shrink
It'll allow to to squeeze a >4.4GB DVD into a regular single-layer DVD with virtually no apparent degradation in video quality. :victory:

dochira wrote:HJ Split won't work the same way that AVI Splitter does. Both programs break up the files into smaller pieces. AVI Splitter allows you to pick the part you want and still view the smaller files. HJ Split just breaks the file up so that can be joined later to the original file.

So ka.
Not sure how kyon-kyon was planning on using the program...
kyon-kyon chan wrote:hmm.. i haven't use that program before.. so i thought it's just the same
with another avi splitter..then when i try to split the file into smaller parts, it
was only splitted into one file and it cannot be played. That's
what i mean by it's not working.. now i can understand why it's turned out to be
like that..thanks btw beem...

Oh... That's exactly what dochira said would happen...
The program I suggested only splits up a file so that it can be transferred in smaller chunks: you have to re-join all the files to use it.
You need a program that can split up an avi file and still be able to play the smaller chunks...
FarOutFreak wrote:Ah. Mac question here...
What's the best alternative to encoding and burning avi files onto a DVD without losing a whole lot of quality, and which would take a lot less time?
I'm burning stuff for a friend of mine who only has a regular DVD player, and the thing I use right now is just Toast 8's DVD-video feature... but at the rate it goes from encoding to finally burning, it's anywhere around 6 to 8 hours for a single DVD's worth... and I'm not convinced that it should really take that long.
I was thinking encoding via ffmpegX first, but am not sure what the best way is to encode and/or burn several videos correctly so that they look great when burnt specifically for DVD playback.
Any hints/suggestions welcome... :fingerscrossed:

FarOutFreak wrote:It's the encoding that's taking forever; burning is just a small portion of the total time in creating the DVD. Any way of encoding stuff faster would be appreciated...

You wouldn't happen to remember which preset/s you used in preparation for burning multiple video files to DVD, would you? Or at least which option/codec would be fine to use for an AVI file?
