i downloaded something, and it turns out it has french subs :beaten: and i think it's really annoying. but it's put together with the avi so the subs aren't separate (is that called a hard-sub?). does anyone know how to get rid of the subs?

You can't.

Once it's hardsubbed, the subs are part of the video... You have to find the raws....

Or re-author it with an overlay over the bottom of the screen, and subs over the top. It'll look terrible though :P

raws = original video file without subtitles. i.e. what subtitling groups use to produce subtitled videos :)

VobSub allows you to embed subtitles in the video using VirtualDub... The two programs work together....

shoujo22 wrote:Please excuse me for being dumb here :beaten:, but what is the best software to use for converting VT_S to avi?

It seems like I have no problem doing anything else when it comes to computers but converting. What's wrong with me?

VT_S??

You mean from a DVD to AVI?

There's a bunch of guides to try here: http://tinyurl.com/66gl89

Yeah. I have like 5 .VOB files that I've tried to convert with nero, avidemux, etc., but I keep getting an error message. It usually says "the 01_1 file can not be read/indexed" or something of that nature. So I was thinking that the 01_1 file was corrupt or something, but when I simply click on it the freaking thing plays perfectly in Nero Showtime. I don't get it :headscratch:

All I know is that I prefer having things in avi format, and that these freaking files are driving me nuts :banghead:.

Thanks for the link hon. I'll see what else I can experiment with .

Try VOB2MPG ( http://www.videohelp.com/tools/VOB2MPG ): it'll extract the MPEG2 files from the VOB files, then you can use another program like AutoGK ( http://www.videohelp.com/tools/AutoGK ) to convert the MPEG2 file to AVI... :victory:

Thanks! I'll give it a try today. Last night I just got up from the computer and went to bed. I was so frustrated

I recorded something off the TV with my DVD recorder and wanted to make a copy without finalizing the disc since there's still a lot of space left. So far, I haven't been successful.

When I tried DVD Decrypter, it said that the disc was empty. Then when I tried Nero, it would copy ok until the last part where it says that the burn failed. I tried it twice.

Still, I tried watching to see if one of the discs worked on my DVD recorder. I could view the disc fine, but when I tried finalizing it, it didn't want to work.

Does anyone have suggestions of what to do or should I just finalize the original copy?
