When I tried DVD Decrypter, it said that the disc was empty. Then when I tried Nero, it would copy ok until the last part where it says that the burn failed. I tried it twice.
Still, I tried watching to see if one of the discs worked on my DVD recorder. I could view the disc fine, but when I tried finalizing it, it didn't want to work.
Does anyone have suggestions of what to do or should I just finalize the original copy?
I don't think you can read a disc unless it's been finalized...

My old DVD recorder was able to do that. That's probably one of the few things that I miss about it. I guess I'll go ahead and finalize the disc then. Thanks! :)

If your old one could do it, then maybe you should read the manual on your new recorder...
I was authoring an episode of Haken no Hinkaku to DVD yesterday... and I discovered that one of the episodes I have is in .mov format. HUH? All the eps came from the same place, so why the .mov file when the rest are .avi? :banghead: I'm just hoping it will convert OK with soft subs :fingerscrossed:

It did... but the subs were below screen, for some reason :banghead: Back to the drawing board....
I'm Authoring Muri na Renai at work today. It only takes an hour including encoding & burning :victory:
I have a feeling that beem and AD will commit seppuku when they see who bumped this thread again. :hehe:
Basically, I have a show on 2 DVDs that I want to somehow get on my computer and put onto 1 DVD. I guess this means transferring the data to my laptop and a lot of editing since it has commercials. Then converting it again to go onto DVD, right?
Could someone give me pointers on how to do the editing and whatnot? Like which programs I should use and how I should go about using it. Thanks! :D

LOL, is this the one you transferred from VHS?
What I would do is use something like XVid4PSP to copy from DVD to .avi file, then use Virtual Dub to edit out the ads. Then burn back to DVD the way you usually do.
No, I haven't tackled that one yet. I'm still waiting to borrow my brother's S-VHS machine. Expect a lot of questions then.

That makes sense. Thanks! I think beem suggested those in the past (well, Virtual Dub for sure!), but I have those programs and instructions on my old laptop, so I have to redownload everything and start from scratch. Hopefully I can do it some time soon, but I will post again to note my progress. :victory:
Virtual dub is pretty easy. All I do is use the slider to locate roughly where the ads begin, then use the keyframe button to find the closest keyframe. Then set the section start. Then I do the same for the advert end, and just hit "delete" on my keyboard. Once you're done, export as avi but don't forget to set the compression FIRST otherwise you'll end up with an uncompressed file that will fill your HD very quickly :bonk:
Uh, you shouldn't convert a DVD (mpg) to avi then convert it back: you'll just degrade the video.
You should use an mpg editor (I use Womble MPEG Video Wizard) to edit out the commercials and just re-author a new DVD... No conversion required and no degradation.

Finally got started converting the Nodame Cantabile raws to DVD. Had to edit siantut's subs, but it wasn't too bad. Just did the first two episodes today; the quality wasn't bad at all though I'd like to see how it compares to the actual DVD video.

You wouldn't notice unless you were really looking for problems...
The slight degradation from encoding is usually most noticeable in dark/near-dark scenes: you'll see the macroblocking (remember the comparison I did in the Nodame thread?)...

Macroblocking is a given when encoding, so I can overlook that, especially on a standard-def set. Aside from that, I agree with you that I probably won't notice the different unless I'm really looking for it.
