I have to say, while that piece is played during the show, I don't think it is the one sought after.. but I suppose only the OP can verify this.

Okay.. after doing a ton of research, I finally figured out then one I think it is:

Saint-Saens - The Carnival of the Animals - Aquarium

I have the track on my computer.. but here's a you tube clip that features it:

I remembered that the song was in an old Ren and Stimpy episode, so I cross referenced the sources and started narrowing down :) An hour and something later... here you are.

If I remember, that's the one that kicks off Episode 9, while the one thtl posted is the one used at the end of Episode 8 while Chiaki is recalling the incident on the plane.

Yeah.. it was in the beginning of 9, but also when Nodame is first hypnotizing Chiaki in 8 too. Well.. now it's up to the OP to make the call.

Actually you're right about that, it does play while Chiaki is being hypotnized. It stops when Nodame is shown talking to Chiaki's mother, then the piece thtl posted starts when Nodame asks Chiaki who was sitting to his right when he was on the plane.

Yeah, it's up to the OP to make the call. :victory:

You can bet she was thinking about that when they filmed it. (I'm actually watching that part right now - finally finishing up my second viewing).

There's something about church that just moves Juri-chan.

Oh.. I just finished the last episode of the special again. Time to go through that awful Nodame Cantabile withdrawal again. Better get the wrist straps and legs restraints ready.

It's a series I really miss when I finish it. I mean, lots of series give emotional impact.. but there's something special about it.

So I understood something this time around (I can't remember if I noticed it last time) that Milch was trying to get Chiaki to realize when he told him he needed to separate things. It was what Chiaki did much more of in the anime than in the Drama - he needed to distinguish between his appreciation for Nodame's piano talent and his feelings for her.

I also finally figured out what Chiaki meant when he says: "You really are" when they're outside after Nodame's recital. He's appreciating that she's back. I guess watching it again gave me a much better appreciation of the timeline.

I still get kinda pissy that drama directors abuse relationships to make the story seem more tense. It's always when the other person is specifically sad that the cell phone doesn't go through... or when the misunderstanding is taken in the worst way. I mean - it's an effective rhetorical technique.. but it really needs to be used more sparingly.

Maybe I'm the strange one - looking for Dramas to be realistic rather than canned emotional rollercoasters. But, even if the caricature style is more accessible, I think the subtle, realistic emotional response is, in the end, a more effective tool: audiences react to intrinsically emotionally charged situations rather than manufactured ones carefully crafted to get maximum return up front.

I guess what I'm saying is that I appreciate a director who gives you the sensation, but doesn't hand it to you on a platter - you have to feel it. And, as much as I love the series, I still think it suffers too much from hand-holding us on our journey.

Bye Nodame.. I'll miss your adorable little face and mannerisms. Maybe I'll come see you again sometime :)

Sometime = early tomorrow morning

Honestly though, you got me thinking about when eventually the interest I have in Nodame wanes a bit. I truly enjoyed the series, but I would guess at some point I will have viewed every episode many times over, posted and commented on countless thoughts about the drama and taken hundreds of screencaps. By then I figured I'll have exhausted most of my interest, and probably regulate Nodame to the occassional viewing. Perhaps by then I can take off the rose-tinted glasses and be able to share my thoughts. At this point, Juri-chan rules all :victory:

Although it would be nice to see more of Nodame Cantabile, particularly since the manga is still going and would provide some material to work with, I think ending the live-action series with one more special would suffice. Chiaki still hasn't reunited with Viera-Sensei and there's the matter of Nodame in a piano concerto with Chiaki conducting. I wouldn't want the drama being run into the ground in an attempt to milk the franchise for all its worth. A series like this deserves to end on a high note.

I suspect a finishing movie is forthcoming. The drama came out a little more than a year and a half ago. The specials came out early this year. I would guess there'll be a movie out within a year if they're going to do any more :)

But, yeah, I think you hit on the things that would be great to see in a final bit.

It's funny, I'm a different kind of person - I can be totally passionate about something and really really enjoy it, but at the same time, identify things I see as wrong with it.

It's a philosophy that gets me in a lot of trouble with the ladies sometimes :) And with one of my friends who likes to be the prototypical blind fanboy about things he likes.

I see it as an opportunity to show a deeper appreciation. In my mind, if you really love someone or something, you realize that it's not perfect and you learn to enjoy it not only despite its flaws, but for them - as well as its virtues.
