1. Typical love story [Rating: 6/10]
A typical romantic story full of cliches, unlucky coincidences, eavesdropped conversations, accidental spying, cheesy lines, and of course, running around. Yamashita Tomohisa is bland as the hero of the show; Kitagawa Keiko's voice and acting are annoying and there is zero romantic chemistry between the two, though as good friends they are quite cute together. What annoys me more is Kitagawa's character who so easily throws away the dream she worked so hard for, just for the sake of a guy. The real stars of the show are Aibu Saki as the bitchy ex and Kanjiya Shihori as the best friend. I found the romantic subplot between Mai (Kanjiya) and Shuji (Mizubata Junpei) more interesting and endearing than that between the two mains.

In its terribly complicated love triangle all spurned lovers, ex-es and people with unrequited love end up happy or happier; either with glad acceptance of reality or finding new love, which is too 'neat'. The last sequence of the story was totally ridiculous. No stadium goes completely silent at a freethrow attempt and there is a time limit for doing these things. Even knowing that the producers put it in for dramatic impact doesn't make it less silly. I could go on more about the strange and unnecessary appearance of the white conductor and random English phrases, but let's not even go there.

Let's end on a positive note though: good soundtrack, though I don't care much for B'z's opening (not a B'z fan).

2. nothing new [Rating: 5/10]
If you've seen a few other Japanese romantic TV dramas then you've already seen this one. There's really nothing new here; just
a collection of the standard cliches. You know in the first episode how things will end and with the title of 'Buzzer Beat' you know how the final game will end. The theme of the series is how love gives you strength. You know that because it gets mentioned several times per episode and there is a giant sign on
the outdoor basketball court that says, "Love Makes Me Strong" that is featured prominently in most episodes. The show could have used some subtlety but the writers seemed to want to hit the viewers over the head with their message.

Some of the characters are pretty good but there are too many artificial obstructions keeping the main couple apart, obstructions which
only serve to drag the story out to fill the eleven episodes. This would have been much better as a two hour movie.
The tremendous appeal of Keiko Kitagawa as Riko is the main
reason to give this series a view but it doesn't save it from the
bad writing.

3. Loved It!!! [Rating: 10/10]
This drama is one of the greatest dramas for me when it comes to the chemistry between the main cast and relationship development. As the drama progresses, the bond between Naoki (Yamapi) and Riko (Kitagawa keiko) grows stronger, and I came to really care about the two. Character development and the meaning of this drama is also very well done, you come to understand the characters' personalities and dreams, feel for their disappointments/insecurities/happiness. I'd say that this is one of Yamapi's best works!
Some say that this is a typical love story, but I completely disagree. This is a drama filled with passions about life, pursuing one's dreams and realizing the hardships in life. The actors' performance really delivered the drama's message!
I highly recommend this drama.

4. Typical Romance, but still good [Rating: 9/10]
This was no doubt a very typical romance drama, and even a bit cliche. However, it was still good. Take the movie Love and Basketball, but add a little more plot development and much more likable characters and this is what you get. Yamapi was descent in this drama, and I liked his character, Naoki. However, this was the first time I watched Kitagawa Keiko and she was brilliant in this drama. I'm definitely going to watch more dramas and movies with her in the future. My only real complaint was that there wasn't as much basketball in it as I thought there would be. Only the first and last episodes do you really see them playing a basketball game, the rest is just practice and training.

5. Your Average Romance Drama [Rating: 6/10]
Your typical love story drama. It is fine if you're in the right mood, but it is merely a drama fun of cliches and predominantly uninteresting, cardboard-cutout characters. Aibu Saki was decent as the bitchy girlfriend that doesn't let go of her man, but Yamashita and Kitagawa struggle through a lot of bad acting and not much going on plot-wise. Kitagawa is certainly eyecandy but than cannot make up for a lack of chemistry between her and yamaPi and her acting really is found out here. Not bad, but certainly expected more tension. Too artificial.

the storyline maybe good.the cast also good esp pi and aibu but some didn't deliver it very well.keiko's acting a little bit flop and the crying scene was absolutely fake.the way she touch naoki when she gave him her support also seem wierd act..please polish it for the next episode...but i love the theme song..thanks to B'z 4 the great song.they remind me the theme song in beautiful life..

7. Simply amazing. [Rating: ?/10]
Well~ This drama was cool, If you have the right mind on it. Yamapi was amazing here, I never thought he'd play basketball. well, being a 25-year old Je-boy... I couldnt care less. :)) Katigawa was good to. She gave the "simple but capable" feeling. Buzzer beater is a recommendable drama, please watch it. Spread the Yamapi love. :)))

8. OK [Rating: 5/10]
It was really interesting in the first few episodes but went downhill in the latter parts which was ashame. I think the relationships were ok but the acting by the characters, especially yama P was cheesy in many parts, hence my rating. Really cringing in bits!!! but watchable :)

I've just finished watching 4th episode en I can't hardly wait to watch next episode. I think the story is very interesting. At first I thought it was all about playing basketball en less romance. But it turn out to be much romance n less playing basketball.

Just another common love story but it was entertaining. Love the casts esp aibu saki, she did very well to be an antagonist.

This is another of those guilty pleasure doramas, the plot is very predictable and simple, and the acting is pretty average; but i was highly entertained by this, thatLs the reason why i rate this so high.
Yamapi is a bad actor and nothing will change that, but at least in Buzzer Beat he found some new facial expressions, which was very refreshing when i remember his past performances. My favorite characters were Riko(Kitagawa Keiko) and Yoyogi(Nobuaki Kaneko); it was my first time seeing Kitagawa Keiko, sheLs not that great of an actress but i totally fell in love with her; as Nobuaki Kaneko goes i saw him in Crows Zero II and he was one of the best characters in the movie, he really plays a good bad guy, and the Yoyogi character in Buzzer Beat was no diferent, iLm really hoping to see more of this guy.
All the other characters were ok, i guess another i really enjoyed was Toru(Nagai Masaru), the typical sportsman guy lol.
One thing i loved about Buzzer Beat was the fact that we had good screen time for all characters and not just Riko and Naoki.
Anyway itLs a very entertaining dorama, with good romance and drama; i loved the end when Yoyogi stole the last ball and made the pass to NaokiLs Buzzer Beat.

This dorama started out pretty well with some basket (I hate basket, but it was alright to watch it in a japanese dorama :P ) and one very hidoi onna.
But shortly after - around ep. 4 or 5 - it turned into the usual love story with very few things going on and a story that honestly just got more and more boring.
I watched it till the end, but I think the only reason I stayed was because of the theme song!
Ichibu to Zenbu by B'z is such an awesome song and is making me pull the dorama up with one point.
5 for the dorama alone, but another point just because of the great song!:D

It was a little too girly manga for me....But still an alright watch. I wanted to murder Natsuki (Aibu Saki) for 90% of the drama. It was really nice from the perspective of someone who wants to see hot shirtless guys. YamaPi's boobies are intense. And I honestly quite enjoyed Kaneko Nobuaki's Yoyogi. There was just something about him. Last note: As someone that enjoys the sound of the violin, it was nice with a violinist as a main character. Oh and also on a musical note, a JE lead actor but still using B'z as the theme music?! Amazing!

I was distracted by another series while I was still watching this, so I didnft enjoyed it as much as I want to. Although, this was definitely my most anticipated series for Summer 09. Naoki, especially on the first part, had less impact on me, so Riko definitely stole the show together with Mai and then followed by Shuji then Kawasaki and Utsunomiya. I donft know, itfs just that Naokifs character was just plain boring that it affected my interest for this series. But the love story was okay, reminds me of Long Vacation.
6. Comments by Spider [Rating: 9/10]
Picked this drama up because I read it won best drama for the year and season it aired. Was probably my first sports JDorama and I must say it was quite good! I've always enjoyed movies/series etc. that deal with a former star or current star athlete that for whatever reason they find themselves struggling to get back to their former glory. Romance and sport strangely fit well together, and this drama was a good example of where a sport (in this case basketball) was a good backdrop to an evolving love story.
7. Comments by Nermal [Rating: 6/10]
watching this just to _ them on their non-existent basketball skills. The cast seriously lacks a strong presence...

After watching: Gotta love how camera angles can make it "look like" you can play basketball when you obviously can't. For once it wasn't a high school drama, but I still thought the main plot lacked a lot! Who the hell goes to practice violin in the middle of a park? Oh well...

The characters didn't draw me in, nor did the story.. too bad..

love this show...bout time another yamapi show has come out...pi can act, but the way he talks is weird that maybe be why ppl think that he can act, because sometimes he slurs his words, but thats just how the guy acts...i love aibu but in the show i hate her, haha but she plays the role of how most females i know act...not very impressed with the basketball skills of the cast other than hideaki and nagai. other than that great show, great ending
9. Comments by aimare [Rating: 8/10]
I'm not much into basketball, but this basketball series is entertaining. Part of it because YamaPi and Keiko are so cute together. (Were they really dating? > <) The story is a bit guessable, dream catching and love triangles etc. YamaPi's basketball and Keiko's violin playing look believable as an amateur. Aibu Saki in an evil role is interesting to see, and I think she did very well because I'm now starting to dislike her. LOL
10. Comments by EstherM [Rating: 7/10]
If youLre looking for something not too nervewrecking this might be your drama. ItLs just a simple and probably realistic (in the sense that this kind of love it could happen to anyone) love story between a mildly talented basketballer and a unsuccesful violonist. Styling is hideous, sport scences are a disaster and storyline formulatic but I liked Naoki and Riko well enough to care.
11. Comments by delaciel [Rating: 7/10]
Well, it's more like 7.8 for me....
It's just another sweet and nice romantic drama.... Yamapi-Keiko's chemistry was good.... The story is just too predictable sometimes and kind of dragging in the middle.... The basketball didn't really play big role (it's just like an ornament in the drama).
I still prefer Proposal Daisakusen for the story~~~~

As my first JDrama besides PGSM, Buzzer Beat easily got my hooked. I love love Yamapi and Keiko together. The kissing in this Jdram actually had me spoiled, because after going back and watching one or two others I only then realized how it's not usually intense! Also loved the soundtrack. I will def rewatch again someday when I buy it.

A perfect 10 for this romance drama. The chemistry between yamapi and keiko is so good one will suspect that they are real couples off the screen too.First time seeing a JE actory kissing so passiontately in front of tv and their kisses are so smooching hot.It is definitely a french kiss!!!Love the OST and the way the story unplots.

Well-deserved 7 points. Being very sceptical expecting a hyper cyber smooth modern Dorama, I was positively surprised. It remembers of the Golden Age of romantic Doramas in the 90s with the "love makes me strong" sign and so on. But somehow it still lacked the passion and devotion of the old days, it was a bit too realistic.
15. Comments by nishishi [Rating: 5/10]
Take Kimutaku's "Pride" but with a worst casting... a much worst plot... and change hockey to basketball and u pretty much got what to expect from Buzzer Beat. Even the match's scenes from Pride is waaaaay better than from this dorama.
Afterall Buzzer Beat is not a bad dorama... but its easily forgettable. Highly overrated!
16. Comments by x_XJules [Rating: 8/10]
The pace of this drama is perfect. The storyline is great and the characters are all well-written. I would give this series a 10 but unfortunately the last episode seemed rushed and didn't quite give a feeling of total gratification. Still, I would recommend this one. LoL, it's not a true sports drama, fyi.
17. Comments by KAZdoramma [Rating: 5/10]
OK,,,,not bad. i thought the first few episodes were quite good but for me, it went downhill in the latter episodes as the acting became a little bit repetitive and cheesy but the dorama itself isn`t a bad watch. So if you`re looking for a light dorama without too much to think about, it`s quite good!
18. Comments by g_hunter1 [Rating: 8/10]
And just as always I expected more action from a sports drama but since that's never the case, the story still pretty good. Maybe I should stop labeling dramas with sports in them sports dramas and just stick to calling them romances. Also a plus for B'z. They still putting out stuff.
19. Comments by dreamer10231 [Rating: 8/10]
highly anticipated! i don't think it's because of tomohisa but it's because of the storyline. usually, i wait for a drama to be finished and wait for the hard subs to be out. however, with this drama, i anticipate it weekly. patiently waiting everyday for the soft subs to be done
20. Comments by Hisagi101 [Rating: 6/10]
Surprisingly this was better then I thought it would be. But still what is with YamaP and kiss scenes. They never seem at all natural , he has improved somewhat though. The chemistry between characters Naoki & Riko is really good but some of the acting is a pretty horrible.

Started off well but then got boring in the middle but picked up in the last episode, however this is a fairly below average drama.Kudos to Aibu Saki for her role as a zurui onna. I'd only seen her doing sweet roles before and I was pleasantly suprised by her in this.
22. Comments by Hinano [Rating: 9/10]
Pretty good drama. I enjoyed yamaP as a basketball player a lot. The ending was a bit of a copout...left an important part of the story a bit...unresolved. It's like they completely threw out one of the storylines in the last 15 minutes! :S That's why giving it a 9.
23. Comments by strawberryfzz [Rating: 7/10]
I rated it a 7 but it's pretty close to an 8. Started off pretty good but never had enough "umph" for me to get around to finish it. Dead fish-eyed YamaP bothers me. Shuji and Mai were adorable together, though. They made me want to root for them!
24. Comments by katsup [Rating: 10/10]
loved this show so much. watched it twice now. I'm a sucker for romance, and sports.. making this show just awesome. Seemed to follow a kdrama formula too (mean girl, two friends falling for same girl, etc) but still kept it japanese-drama like :)
25. Comments by Mimori [Rating: 9/10]
It was an entertaining drama, even if it made me rage at times. However, the ending was left a little open ended.
Anyway, I gave it a 9 because Mai and Shuji were so cute together, if only Naoki and Riko had been like that more often. *le sigh
26. Comments by ginger ale [Rating: 8/10]
Not a big fan of basketball cause I'm a soccer groupie but watching Buzzer Beat was a no brainer and stress buster, so i finished all episodes in 2 days. If you're a sports buff and craving some light romance, this is the drama to watch.
27. Comments by himono [Rating: 7/10]
it is a nice romance drama. the story was not very original, but it is was fun to watch. a lot is done by yamapi, a pleasure for the eyes :D but i would have prefered if he smiled more in the dorama. he was much too serious.
28. Comments by Oba-chan [Rating: 6/10]
Predictable, there's no basket action, only boring love story, just because Aibu saki i give this 6 point, yamapi and keiko-chan didn't work very well. Only recomended for girl audience.

First of all, Ito Hideaki was jaw dropping handsome in this! I could be really critical of this drama for a number of reasons...but I'm not going to. It was fun and I enjoyed it. Would watch it again. Loved the B'z song.

Well, I guess it's pretty average, but catchy. Even though the story's nothing special it keps you watching and even though I'm no fan of YamaPi (nothing against him, either), I enjoyed watching this. :3
