Sad and heartwarming drama. Keeps your attention and keeps you watching! You're shed a few tears for sure!
JIN [JIN-仁-]
Great drama with a strong cast and acting. high production values and compelling and touching story!

Maybe the best drama of 2011! Really really good with an heartfelt ending that tied it all together! Great acting, story and again an great and very satisfying ending that will leave you in tears!
Kekkon Dekinai Otoko [結婚できない男]
Hope it can one day get into the top 50 because it deserves to be there so other people will watch it.
Marumo no Okite [マルモのおきて]
Great family drama that will leave you routing for the main characters as well as leave you crying with them. All this and a talking dog too! ;)

Should become a classic! Really good!

Really nice story about the trials and challenges one faces in life. Blood is thicker then water!

Good sushi can solve anything!
Smile [スマイル]
Aragaki Yui is really good in this one and finally showed she's not just another cute face but she can act too!

37.5C no Namida [37.5℃の涙]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Interesting drama that is a bit preachy but thoughtful!
5 to 9 ~ Watashi ni Koi Shita Obousan~ [5→9 〜私に恋したお坊さん〜]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Nice, warm and cute drama! An easy watch and light hearted!
A LIFE ~ Itoshiki Hito [アライフ ~ 愛しき人]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Nothing special but watchable.
Age Harassment [エイジハラスメント]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Nice corporate drama but I wish they had some closure at the end, unless there is a season 2.
Aishiteru ~ Kaiyo [アイシテル ~ 海容]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Serious drama but a lot of forgiveness experienced in this series.
Akahana no Sensei [赤鼻のセンセイ]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
A teacher doing as much for his students as possible is nothing new - but here it's in a hospital. Nice drama.
Algernon ni Hanataba wo [アルジャーノンに花束を]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Anego [アネゴ]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Angel Bank ~ Tenshoku Dairinin [エンゼルバンク]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Not bad. My wife loved this one whereas I enjoyed it but not as much as her. Again, I think the humor gets a bit lost during the translation. Still worth a watch if you like something light.
At Home Dad [アットホーム・ダッド]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
Great family drama!
Attention Please [アテンションン プリース]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Bara no nai Hanaya [薔薇のない花屋]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
Very good! Heartfelt and moving. This drama starts off dreamy and is very romantic and you get drawn in. The reason I didn't give it a 10 was because for me it falls off track just a bit towards the end, but that's minor. You will love this drama!
Beautiful life [ビューティフルライフ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Good drama and had its moments.
Bijo ka Yajuu [美女か野獣]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Nice drama and Matsushima Nanako is very cute, but she played the role too straight and it came across as one dimensional. I wished she showed a but more emotion and range. Still enjoyable but a disappointing.
Bitter Blood [ビター・ブラッド]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Boku dake no Madonna [僕だけのマドンナ]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Nice drama, and I liked it more than I expected!
Boku to Star no 99 Nichi [僕とスターの99日]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Just what I needed... a light hearted and not think so much drama with some light comedy & romance. No oscars here just something light which I was in the mood for!
BORDER [ボーダー]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
A bit intense with some serious themes. Well acted and if there is a Season 2, I will definitely watch it!
BOSS
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Not bad as I'm not so into the Japanese crime dramas, but this one was ok.
Brother Beat [ブラザー☆ビート]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Good family drama, but too much fighting between the brothers.
Bus stop [バスストップ]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Nice but predictable boy meets girl, boy likes girl, boy loses girl and boy gets back girl! Predictable but still nice and had a small charm to it!
Buzzer Beat ~ Gakeppuchi no Hero [ブザー・ビート]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
Picked this drama up because I read it won best drama for the year and season it aired. Was probably my first sports JDorama and I must say it was quite good! I've always enjoyed movies/series etc. that deal with a former star or current star athlete that for whatever reason they find themselves struggling to get back to their former glory. Romance and sport strangely fit well together, and this drama was a good example of where a sport (in this case basketball) was a good backdrop to an evolving love story.
Celeb to Binbo Taro [セレブと貧乏太郎]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched)
Ok drama but didn't hold my attention as other JDorama do. It was hard to care for the main characters.
CHANGE
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Started a bit slow but picked up mid way through and finished strong. The thing I've noticed in JDoramas is that the bad person in the series never get what's coming to them. In crime dramas they do but in dramas where one person is bullying or doing backstabbing stuff to the main character, they never get it back in the end. Hope that changes.
Code Blue 2 [コード・ブルー 2]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
I think I enjoyed season 2 slightly more than season 1! If they make a season 3 which I think they will, I hope they include a few more miricles and happy outcomes because TV and especially Japanese dramas I watch to forget about reality!
Code Blue: Doctor Heli Kinkyu Kyumei [コード・ブルー]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
I think western medical and crime drama's are done so well in the U.S. (ER, Gray's Anatomy, CSI etc.) , so I tend to stay away from Japanese medical and/or police type JDoramas. Not sure why then I picked this one up as I try and watch JDoramas that typically are not covered like they are in the west I was surprised I enjoyed this one as much as |I did despite the unbelievablility of the young doctors here who are all pretty good looking. Still it was good and had it's touching moments. Fans of the stars in this series will like it!
Date ~ Koi to wa Donna Mono Kashira [デート ~ 恋とはどんなものかしら]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Very very good, with great acting and writing!
Dear Sister [ディア・シスター]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Good drama about sister's who are complete opposites but are bonded my their family and love for one another.
Death Note [デスノート]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Very similar to the movie but with a few twists and changes thrown in. A little too much over acting towards the end, but overall not too bad!
Densha Otoko [電車男]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
Will warm your heart, bring a smile to your face and a tear to your eyes! A must see!

Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
More of the same and if you enjoyed the first two seasons you will like season 3.
Doctor-X 4 ~ Gekai Daimon Michiko [Doctor-X 4 ~ 外科医・大門未知子]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
More of the same, she never fails so nothing new....but we keep watching, and it's still good!
Doctor-X ~ Gekai Daimon Michiko [ドクターX 〜外科医・大門未知子]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
DOCTORS Saikyou no Meii [DOCTORS 最強の名医]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Great medical drama and with only 8 episodes you want to watch Season 2 right away!
DOCTORS Saikyou no Meii 2 [DOCTORS 〜 最強の名医 〜 2]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Really enjoyed this drama and hope there is a Season 3!
DOCTORS Saikyou no Meii 3 [DOCTORS〜最強の名医〜 3]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
More of the same and I hope there is a Season 4!
Egao no Hosoku [笑顔の法則]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Started a bit slow but I ended up really enjoying this drama. The brother-in-law overacts a bit too much for my taste but this is an overall good drama with Abe Hiroshi and Takenchi Yuko who to me is the Meg Ryan of Japan.
Eigyou Buchou Kira Natsuko [営業部長 吉良奈津子]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Good workplace & family life drama.
Engine [エンジン]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)

Catchy theme song and at times had it's touching moments. Worth a watch!
Freeter, Ie o Kau. [フリーター、家を買う。]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Well acted with a strong lead story and very good sub plots. Good story about finding yourself and maturing and growing up, as well as wanting approval from your father, and just oridinary family life and all that goes with it. Really liked this drama!
Galileo [ガリレオ]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Good crime drama that starts strong but the last few episodes didn't capture you like the first few. Still if you like police/crime JDorama, then this one is pretty good.
Gekokujo Juken [下剋上受験]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Good family drama.
Gisou no Fuufu [偽装の夫婦]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Funny and heart warming drama!
GM Odore Doctor [GM~踊れドクター]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Started off ok but lost a bit of its charm early on. Higashiyama Noriyuki from the Kuitan series can still dance very well, but his Michael Jackson moves get a bit old after 6 or 7 episodes.
Going My Home [ゴーイング マイ ホーム]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Surprisingly Good!
Gokusen [ごくせん]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Gokusen 2 [ごくせん2]

Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Hachimitsu to Kuroba [ハチミツとクローバー]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Formula drama as you have seen it all before, but still very good for me! I have come to realize that I like these types of dramas! Worth watching!
Haken no Hinkaku [ハケンの品格]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
A temp worker that can do just about everything!
Hana Yori Dango [花より男子]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)

Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Easy to watch and a nice workplace type drama!
Hanayome to Papa [花嫁とパパ]

want to watch
Hanazakari no Kimitachi e [花ざかりの君たちへ]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Surprised I enjoyed this drama as much as I did. Becoming more of a fan of Horikita Maki. Funny and has it's touching moments.
Hanzawa Naoki [半沢直樹]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
I've been watching more Korean dramas lately but decided to watch a Japanese one and ran across Hanzawa Naoki, and was so happy that I did! Nicely paced drama that shows the inside of the Japanese banking system that few see. Japanese drama's don't drag on like their Korean counterpart, and this one ended a bit early, but I'm so glad there will be a season 2. Kagawa Teruyuki is amazing in this drama as his acting and especially his facial expressions convey more than any words he says. My wife says he is a traditional theater actor in Japan who just started doing TV recently. I hope he does more because he has a screen presence few actors have. The only reason I didn't give this drama a 10 was because of the ending, but other then that it's well worth watching!
Hero
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Formula role for Kimura Takuya.... but it works!
Hero 2
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Not to bad but really an average legal drama. If you're a fan of Season 1 then you will enjoy Season 2.
Hotaru no Hikari [ホタルノヒカリ]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
For me, this was one of the first Jdramas I watched and I was forever addicted to JDoramas!
Hotaru no Hikari 2 [ホタルノヒカリ]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
Soild and very fun... just like Season 1! Watched with my wife who laughed out loud a number of times! Great fun and Ayase Haruka is super cute and pretty as always. She's a really talented actress!
Hungry! [ハングリー!]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Really enjoyed this food related drama, and it does make you feel "hungry" when you watch it! I hope they make a season 2!
I'm Home [アイムホーム]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Ichi Ritoru no Namida [1リットルの涙]

Iryu [医龍 Team Medical Dragon]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Good medical drama!
Iryu 2 [医龍 2]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
More of the same, and if you're a fan of season 1 than you will enjoy season 2!
Iryu 3 [医龍]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
More of the same but I still like it!
Itoshi Kimie [愛し君へ]
Rating: 8/10
Good drama. The pace is slow but that's what makes it special.
Itsuka Kono Koi wo Omoidashite Kitto Naite Shimau [いつかこの恋を思い出してきっと泣いてしまう]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Subtle drama that unfolds slowly. Very good acting about unselfish love that in the end is actually selfish. Warm and touching if you like romance and a sense of fate!
JIN [JIN-仁-]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
Great Dorama that really draws you in and makes you route for the hero to succeed. If you could go back in time and change your future for the better, why wouldn't you route for him! Really satisfying drama!
JIN 2
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
Really, really good!
Juui Dolittle [獣医ドリトル]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Nice drama with positive messages throughout! I didn't expect much when I picked up this drama but was again pleasently surprised... I like that!
Kamisama mou sukoshi dake [神様、もう少しだけ]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
I heard this was one of Fukada Kyoko's first dramas if not the first one, so she's come a long way! Not quite up there to One litre of tears' but I did enjoy this drama. Had its moments but you knew what was going to happen.
Karei naru Ichizoku [華麗なる一族]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Japanese version of Dynasty.
Kazoku Game [家族ゲーム]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Good drama and keeps you guessing if the main character is a good tutor or is he really a monster in disguise? You'll have to watch to find out!
Kazoku no Katachi [家族ノカタチ]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Really enjoyed this subtle family work life drama!!
Kekkon Dekinai Otoko [結婚できない男]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
One of my favorite dramas. Good story and acting and just really enjoyable to watch. Abe Hiroshi is so good here!

Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Good acting by the female lead. Nice story!
Kodoku no Gurume [孤独のグルメ]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
Great series but watch out as you'll get hungry when watching!
Kodoku no Gurume 2 [孤独のグルメ 2]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Really great series if you're a foodie... and even if you're not! Very subtle and very good series!
Koi ni Ochitara ~Boku no Seikou no Himitsu~ [恋におちたら〜僕の成功の秘密〜]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Not sure why the english title is called "When I fall in love" as this is not a love story, but rather a climb the corporate ladder and big business type story - with a bit of romance thrown in. Entertaining enough and I liked that everyone got what they wanted and deserved in the end! So many Jdramas now have disappointing endings, but not this one. Likeable characters that you root for to raise up and win in the end... and they do! Satisfying!
Kokoro ga Pokitto ne [心がポキッとね]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
I really enjoyed this drama and don't know why it got such low ratings in Japan. Damaged but thoughtful people and an happy ending to boot. What more can you ask for! :)
Kuitan [喰いタン]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Funny drama... I was surprised I enjoyed it.
Kuitan 2 [喰いタン 2]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Continuation of season 1, and also good but not as good as season 1.
Kyowa Kaisha Yasumimasu [きょうは会社休みます]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
All I can say is I hope there's a Season 2!
Last Cinderella [ラスト シンデレラ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
I enjoyed this drama more than I thought I would, and probably wished for a different ending. Still worth watching as a not too serious fun and easy going drama!
Last Friends [ラスト・フレンズ]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Another drama that makes you want to watch it all in one sitting. Lot's happening in this JDorama, very ambitous and many issues. Deep yet entertaining. Not a light drama, but enjoyable.
Legal High [リーガル・ハイ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Fun and fasted paced and a totally different character for Sakai Masato then he played in Hanzawa Naoki. Aragaki Yui is just as cute as ever!
Legal High 2 [リーガル・ハイ 2]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Enjoyed a bit more than Legal High 1. Maybe they will make a 3?
Liar Game [ライアーゲーム]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Interesting concept, which made for an interesting drama. I bit confusing at times, but not a bad drama.
Long vacation [ロングバケーション]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Very good old style drama that is still great today. I love happy endings! :)
Love generation [ラブジェネレーション]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Love Revolution [ラブレボリューション]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Good mature drama and romance story.

Expected alot and wasn't disappointed. Nice modern JDorama!
Lunch no Joou [ランチの女王]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Magerarenai Onna [曲げられない女]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
Very good!
Mahoro Ekimae Bangaichi [まほろ駅前番外地]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Very very good!
Majo no jouken [魔女の条件]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Every 17 year old guys dream, to fall in love with the hot teacher at school! This drama was quite good but lacked that extra range to get a higher score and be an incredible series. I'm really becoming more of a fan of Matsushima Nanako, as shes not only pretty but can act too! This dramas did its best to be both touching and compelling, but it just lacked a certain emotional quality that could have made it really special. Still, I would recommend if you in the mood for a touchy feelie teary kind drama with an attractive and likeable heroine.
Marumo no Okite [マルモのおきて]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Good acting by all with a touching story and cute kids. Ashida Mana reminds me of how Ayase Haruka would be at 7 years old! I also heard Abe Sadao is a comedian in Japan and I could see that, but boy can he act and with surprisingly good range too! This role was tailor made for him. I really enjoyed the beginning episodes. The middle faltered a bit for me but the ending episodes won my heart back! Also becoming a fan of Higa Manami. Really liked her in Code Blue I & II and she's slowly becoming more of a lead actress in my opinion. Really really good drama that satisfys and will bring a tear or two to your eyes!
Massugu na Otoko [まっすぐな男]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
Really enjoyed this one.
Mei-chan no Shitsuji [メイちゃんの執事]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Kinda funny with a bit of slap stick but surprisingly entertaining.
Mioka [美丘]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Not as good as 1 Litre of Tears, but if you want something like that, than this drama fits the bill.
Moteki [モテキ]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
Fun entertaining drama that makes you smile to yourself! Touching moments too! Worth watching for sure!
Mother
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
Very strong performances and no over acting in this Drama! Feels more like a long movie at times than a drama.
Mother Game [マザー・ゲーム]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Nice family drama. Beginning part of each episode was pretty funny!
Mousou Kanojo [妄想彼女]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
My Boss, My Hero [マイボスマイヒロ]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
Funny drama with Aragaki Yui! Nov. 6, 2015 - Re-watched this drama and it's now a 10 out of 10 for me! There is a sweetness and innocence about this drama that is hard to find in today's J Dramas. Anyway, rediscover this laugh out loud, sweet and charming drama again!
Nagareboshi [流れ星]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
Surprised that I enjoyed this drama, as i'm not a big Uteo Ayae Fan. Still this was a good romantic series!
Naka nai to Kimeta Hi [泣かないと決めた日]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
kept me watching this work themed, underdog heroine who you cheer for to overcome and win in the end!
Natsu no Koi wa Nijiiro ni Kagayaku [夏の恋は虹色に輝く]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Best english title for a summer romance drama! Watchable, light-hearted and enjoyable. Nothing really sticks out or grabs you with this drama, but it's great to see Takeuchi Yuko back after a few years away, and she's as cute as ever!
Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu [逃げるは恥だが役に立つ]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
Great and funny drama. The end credit song is worth watching again and again. Just makes you feel good!
Nobunaga Kyousoukyoku [信長協奏曲]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Oda Nogunaga is popular this year with two series about his life. Both are good, so if you are a fan of the "Warring States" period, and even if you're not, this is worth your time to watch!
Nobunaga no Chef [信長のシェフ]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
I really enjoyed this drama. Learn some Japanese history and makes you hungry at the same time!
Nobunaga no Chef 2 [信長のシェフ 2]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Another solid season. Season 3 perhaps?
Nobuta wo Produce [野ブタ。をプロデュース]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Maybe I was expecting too much from this drama as so much was written about it being so good. I did enjoy it through, and I was glad I watched it.
Nodame Cantabile [のだめ カンタビ−レ]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
My wife loved this drama as she's Japanese, but I'm not - so I needed the subs. The humor is somewhat lost when you don't understand it in Japanese, and it was my first drama I saw that was more slap stick type humor.
Ohitorisama [おひとりさま]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
Very enjoyable drama!
Orange Days [オレンジデイズ]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
I thought I'd never ever give another 10 for another JDorama as I've been watching a few that never quite make the 10 mark. Well, that just ended now as Orange Days is a powerhouse 10 out of 10 drama! So much is happening in this series and it had some of the best romantic dialogue I've heard in a long time! I was a bit of a fan of Shibasaki Kou after seeing her in Battle Royale and Galileo, but I'm a huge fan of hers now! She did an amazing job playing a deaf woman, and she played it with such passion and believability that if she didn't win for best actress for this role as Hagio Sae, she should have! I usually buy JDorama's on DVD, but this one wasn't available with the english subs - so I watched it online. I have to say the quality of the subs available online are way better than what you get when you buy the dvd at the asian market. Those ones usually get translated from Japanese to Chinese than to english, so the subs are not as good. This one watching online the subs with right on so the dialogue was just great which made for a great drama! Highly recommended Orange Days.... one of the all time great JDorama's in my opinion!
Osen [おせん]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
If you like food dramas you will enjoy this one!
Osozaki no Himawari [遅咲きのヒマワリ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Nice drama about a problem facing many small towns in Japan. Worth watching!
Otona Joshi [オトナ女子]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Nice adult drama!

Papa to Musume no Nanokakan [パパとムスメの7日間]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Fun drama, but needed a few more episodes! Aragaki Yui.... what more can you say!
PRICELESS ~Aru Wake Nedaro,n namon!~ [PRICELESS ~あるわけねぇだろ,んなもん!~]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Pro Golfer Hana [プロゴルファー花]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched)
Just ok, as it had its moments. Sato Jiro was very funny in this, as his tone and accent when taking made my wife and I laugh out loud! First time I saw Kato Rosa as well, and she's very cute! Still this wasn't enough to carry the series, but because it was short (11 - 30min episodes), it ended on the right note.
Proposal Daisakusen [プロポーズ大作戦]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Always enjoyed dramas and movies involving time travel to go back to the past to try and change your future for the better!
Real Clothes [リアル・クローズ]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Rich Man, Poor Woman [リッチマン、プアウーマン]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Roosevelt Game [ルーズヴェルト・ゲーム]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
Using baseball as a metaphor for big business worked really well in this drama. Has the same feel as Hanzawa Naoki, which is not surprising given it's the same writer. Well acted and another glimse inside corporate Japan. I only wished it had a few more episodes with Kagawa Teruyuki, as he has a screen presence and intensity few other Japanese actors can match.
Ryoma Den [龍馬伝]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
My first taiga drama and I must say Ryoma Den was very good! I knew of the character from Jin, but here the story is all about the early life and eventually death of Ryoma. I agree with what some have said here in that Fukuyama Masaharu's range as a actor really didn't do any justice to this real life hero. A stronger lead actor with an acting range that could show some true emotional range would have really lifted this taiga to another level! Still this is a very good drama about the real and incredible life of Sakamoto Ryoma. He was a true visionary and foresaw change and that modernization of Japan was much needed. My first Taiga and definately won't be my last.... I'm hooked!
Saigo Kara Nibanme no Koi [最後から二番目の恋]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
The drama has a certain charm that's hard to explain, and an innocence that's usually in teen dramas. The chemistry between the two main leads is very very good and the supporting cast are superb as well. Nice drama!

Seikei Bijin [整形美人。]
Rating: 5/10 (Bought & Watched)
This drama didn't keep my attention. Just average I thought. For me, Yonekura Ryoko tried too hard and over acted, and it just wasn't natural.
Sekai Ichi Muzukashii Koi [世界一難しい恋]

Nice drama and worth watching!
Sekai no chuushin de, ai wo sakebu [世界の中心で、愛をさけぶ]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Took a while for me to get into this one, but in the end it was a nice well done drama. Didn't grip me like 1 Litre of Tears did, but this series was still good! Ayase Haruka has come so far since this series, and proven she's one of the premier Japanese actors acting today in Japan!

Wasn't expecting to like this drama as much as I did! The ending kinda surprised me as the story takes a few different turns, and twists around a bit, trying to lead you a certain way. Luckily I found it very satisifying!

Sunao ni Narenakute [素直になれなくて]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
This drama kind of reminded me of Last Friends, and perhaps because of the success of that drama this one evolved. Lot's going on in this drama and it was enjoyable to watch things unfold. If you were a fan of last Friends I think you will enjoy this drama.
Tenno no Ryoriban [天皇の料理番]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
First and middle episodes were good then towards the end it faded a bit for me, which led to a lower score. If the last few episodes were on par with the first few then it would have have rated in a 9. Still a good drama which I enjoyed!
Tokujo Kabachi!! [特上カバチ !!]

Unubore Deka [うぬぼれ刑事]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Funny series and my wife was laughing out loud so many times! She's Japanese so she doesn't need the subs but I do, so alot of the humor is lost but I still found it really funny! I would't be surprised to see a season 2!

Yamada Taro Monogatari [山田太郎ものがたり]

One of the first JDorama's I ever watched and it was a good family drama that is both funny and touching! Recommended!
Yamato Nadeshiko [やまとなでしこ【大和撫子】]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Older drama that satisfies! Newer dramas tend to give you the shocker ending or one that leaves you saying "what?". But this one leaves a smile and happy feeling, which is why I sometimes prefer older Jdoramas!
Zenkai Girl [全開ガール]

At Home Dad [アットホーム・ダッド]
Great family Jdorama! [Rating: 9/10]
This one was a pleasure to watch and it was one of the first JDorama that I watched where you feel a bit touched. Abe Hiroshi is again excellent as a dad that has to stay at home and take care of the household duties, as well as look after their daughter. At first it's seems like his life is pointness and he wants to get back to work, but slowly he realizes what's more important in life... and that's family! If you're looking for something light and likeable then this would be a great drama to watch!
Attention Please [アテンションン プリース]
It grows on you... [Rating: 7/10]
Ueto Aya grows on you in this drama and so does the series! Nothing too special here but it's watchable and light hearted with some tender moments. If you're a Ueto Aya fan than you will like this drama.
Densha Otoko [電車男]
Perfect Drama, that will touch your heart! [Rating: 10/10]
Maybe it was the timing, but for me this was exactly what I needed... a nice, sweet and charming romantic drama. The idea that this is based on a true story just adds to its appeal. To think that Train Man and Hermes-sam actually exist brings a smile to my face. There's still some good and niceness in the world! The acting is not top notch, but the story is touching and enduring for this light hearted and thoughtful drama. To think that people actually got inspired while reading the tread and cheered Train Man on and maybe changed abit themselves is moving! Sometimes you got to step out from the background or the view never changes. Train Man steps out and than some! Fell for Hermes-san myself as she was so sweet! A must watch, and I understand now why so many here recommend watching this drama as your first introduction to JDramas... very satisfying!!!
Going My Home [ゴーイング マイ ホーム]
Surprisingly good! [Rating: 9/10]
Well acted family drama that is not over the top. Perhaps after watching so many Korean dramas lately, I find Japanese dramas refreshing again. Abe Hiroshi is always very good and he's in great form again playing a salaryman re-examining his relationship with his family and his father. Everyday life with family and work are shown realistically. The last episode with Abe breaking down is as touching a moment as I can ever recall I've seen... just superb!
JIN [JIN-仁-]
Jin, is not to be missed! [Rating: 10/10]
I've always been a fan of movies and dramas that involve time travel. Something about going back to the past or into the future to try and change your fate for the better is so appealing, so I was instantly drawn to this drama. The cast and the acting and production values seem higher in this drama than ones I've seen in the past. From the 1st episode you're drawn in and want to see the next episode... that's pretty much my basic criteria with JDorama's - they have to make you want to watch the next episode badly.... this one will make you feel this way! Great drama!
Kekkon Dekinai Otoko [結婚できない男]
The Best and a must see JDorama! [Rating: 10/10]
Probably my favorite Jdorama of all time, as I never get bored of watching it again and again! Abe Hiroshi is superb in his role of a man who prefers being alone and never wants to get marry. Excellent character development, as Abe Hiroshi's character portrays himself as an uncaring, self absorbed, know it all selfish man. But deep down inside he has a heart of gold and will do almost anything for his friends and family. He kind of reminded me of Jack Nickolson's character in the movie "As Good as it Gets". Just watch the movie and I think you'll see what I mean. The music is even somewhat similar. His character develops over time and slowly realizes that humans need each other and are not meant to be alone. This is a wonderful dorama if you like adult themed, well acted romantic comedies. This drama is truly special and a must see for Abe Hiroshi fans, and a must see for JDorama fans in general. 5 Stars!!! I hope they do a SP so we find out a little bit more about what happens next....
Mahoro Ekimae Bangaichi [まほろ駅前番外地]
Superb!!! [Rating: 9/10]
All I can say is a really really really hope for a Season 2!
Mioka [美丘]
Not as good as 1 Litre of Tears [Rating: 8/10]
Very similar to 1 Litre of Tears but for me it wasn't as good. Yoshitaka Yuriko really establishes herself as a good actress in this drama as she goes through all the emotions convincingly! Happy, sad, spoiled, angry, hurt, in love etc. she does a very good job here and I was impressed by her acting. I tear jerker that doesn't quite make you cry as much as 1 Litre of Teras did, but still touching in its own way nonetheless!
Moteki [モテキ]
Pleasently surprised! [Rating: 9/10]
Wasn't expecting much when I picked up this drama, so I was pleasently surprised when it turned out to be very good! The interaction between the main characters had a good feel to it and you really route for him to find his true love. This drama made me smile. Hope there's a second season!
Mother
Serious drama that feels like you're watching a mo [Rating: 9/10]
Very serious drama unlike your typical serious JDoramas (Last Friends, White Spring, Smile etc.). No overacting in "Mother", just a strong lead actress and a strong and excellent performance by the little girl... she will be an actress to watch out for in the future! The things I love about JDoramas that make them so different from North American dramas, I didn't find in Mother. So the acting and story really had to carry the series through... and it did! Compelling story that will melt your heart and shed a tear.
My Boss, My Hero [マイボスマイヒロ]
Simple, good... and very satisfying! [Rating: 9/10]
I just re-watched this drama this week after first watching it maybe 8 years ago, and I must say it was better the second time around! This was one of my very first J Drama's that I watched, so I was a newbie back then. Now a seasoned J Drama addict, I appreciate this simple and feel good story that has a sweetness to it that many newer J dramas are lacking. I won't wait another 8 years to re-watch it, and you shouldn't either!
Naka nai to Kimeta Hi [泣かないと決めた日]
Kept me watching [Rating: 8/10]
Having seen my fair share of Jdramas I've come to realize that on a very basic level, a good jdrama is one where you want to keep watching because you want to know what happens next. Well this Jdrama made me want to keep watching, secretly hoping that the people that were bullying the main character would get what was coming to them. I won't spoil the ending by saying here what happens, but I will say that I was a tad disappointed with the way this drama ended, which prevented me from giving it a higher score. Still this was a good drama and I would recommend it if you like work themed dramas with a underdog for a heroine, who you cheer for and hope they win out in the end.
Orange Days [オレンジデイズ]
A must watch as this JDorama is absolutely the bes [Rating: 10/10]
Proposal Daisakusen [プロポーズ大作戦]
Worth Watching [Rating: 8/10]
Just finished watching this drama plus the SP last night, and it was good. I enjoyed the character building and the plot line... I mean who wouldn't want to go back in time and try and change your future for better! I did feel though this dorama dragged on abit and should have ended a few episodes earlier. It also was a bit frustrating because he could have told her how he felt so many times, but silly circumstances prevented it. Anyway, if you looking for a cute drama with some touching moments, this one has it and you won't be disapointed.
Shiawase ni Narou yo
Predictable... but [Rating: 8/10]
Predictable - but still an enjoyable drama. Boy meets girl, boy likes girl, boy gets girl, boy loses girl... well you get the idea. Nothing really original here and it's basically your typical Jdorama formula series (lot's of running by the male lead and lot's of walking slowly by the female lead reflecting/thinking), but still and for whatever reason I kept watching. Kuroki Meisa is seriously pretty, and despite her narrow range in playing this character (she seems to play really just one emotion here), she kind of fits the part well. Katori Shingo plays another nice guy like he did in Flower Shop Without Roses, which is a much better romance drama. Katori's character does get annoying towards the end, as you would think that he would be smarter in realizing faster his love for Kuroki Meisa, especially since he's a master match maker. Dispite some flaws with the script, I realiized that I enjoyed this drama because it had a happy ending. So many JDorama don't finish well and you're left feeling a bit empty at the end. At least here almost all the characters get what they want.... so how could you not like that!
Shinzanmono [新参者]
Good but not Abe Hiroshi's best [Rating: 7/10]
I thought this drama was just slightly above average for me. Abe Hiroshi who is one of my favorite Japanese actors was just average, and played it very subdued. Perhaps I've come to expect alot from Abe Hiroshi, as he's been so great in the other JDorama's that he's starred in. He did suit the role and added abit of quirkyness to his character, but the drama itself didn't make you want to watch the next episode like you think it would in this "who done it" type series. If you're a Abe Hiroshi fan and enjoy his work then it's worth watching.
Shiroi Haru [白い春]
Very Good! [Rating: 9/10]
Abe Hiroshi is like Japan's Tom Hanks, as anything this guy stars in you can be assured that it's going to be pretty good. Unmarried Man, At Home Dad, Trick etc. are examples. Not sure why the drama is called White Spring, but nevertheless this drama is touching with great acting by Abe Hiroshi. My only criticism would be the ending. Seems to be the more the norm in JDormas where they want to shock or not give you a happier ending. I mean when you watch this dorama, it really does a good job in character development of the main character, making you really route for this guy to succeed and turn his life around! He does, and you want it to pay off for him in the end... he deserves it! Still a satisfying drama that will draw you in, but perhaps leave you a tad disappointed at the end!
Shiroi Haru [白い春]
Kept be watching! [Rating: 9/10]
This drama came out of nowhere for me and I really enjoyed it. I picked it only because of Abe Hiroshi, as I was told it was not a feel good type of drama. I would disagree with that! After I watched it, it was a good drama but I didn't like the ending. Still if you're an Abe H. fan (and even if you're not) this drama has good acting & character development plus a good story that is both sad and uplifting!
Tsuki no Koibito [月の恋人]
Good and watchable especially with Lin Chi Ling!!! [Rating: 8/10]
Good drama and really liked Lin Chi Ling's character as she is not only super pretty but she can act as well. I generally like Shinohara Ryoko in most of her roles, "At home dad", "Anego" etc., but her character here was always pouting and puckering her lips and always tossing her hair back, which got to be a bit annoying. Still a good drama with only 8 episodes, so you can finish in a day or two.
