I suggest you go with a Western SATA instead of Maxtor. At least these are the competitive ones I'm told... but I suppose that wouldn't matter....you're waiting for a sale! :hehe:

no SATA controller. :puppydog:
2 Mar 2007, 12:18 #3305
NO SATA? how about throwing out a dvdrom drive if you have one. Then you can have up to 3 internal HD's and a burner.

If not you can always go for external drives, or replace small drives with larger ones. 500gb drives are rather cheap now.

You can always add in a PCI SATA controller card, ne?

woah woah woah... back up people..

i've got enough connectors for 7 more internal drives (4 UW2SCSI, 3 ATA/133), my power supply on the other hand couldn't handle more than 2 more. I've already got 4 other backup drives on my Firewire chain.

i just need to find a 200'ishGB drive at a good price.

i dont think i'd be worth buying another controller, since my bus is limited to 133.

There's always the new mobo route.

Today's Fry's ad:

Seagate 300GB PATA100 or 300GB SATA300, 16MB buffer, 7200RPM... $90, no rebate required.

not that I know of, but Laing is quite reputable. And you also expect a $100 pump to be reliable too. My much cheaper $50 Eheim served me well for 2 years.

edit: I took apart my pump and the second pic pretty much explains why it won't start anymore:

No, don't cry.... I hate RMAs. It is always such a process! A real pain in the butt! The fact that your CPU and other hardware may be affected, is a sad thought! But u r a smart boy, I'm sure u can fix things. :woot:
