NOTE: You have to make sure your DVD recorder can use the DVD-RAM discs... My Panny does, but I don't know about other models.

Eek. I guess I'll just take the chance and buy some if I can find it here. If it doesn't work, I can always send em to you. :)

Do you have any suggestions for what DVD-RAM discs are good?

Just check the user's manual.... Or there should be a DVD-RAM logo on the from of the recorder...

Been using ConvertX to DVD lately and it has worked well so far for my DVDs. It does the encoding, sets up menus with some templates available, and I can use .srt files for subtitles. It's a nice all-in-one solution for me. :victory:

That's what everyone seems to be using 'round here, save a few.

It's simple to use, and the video quality is nice as well, so I can see why I'm not the only one using it. :victory:

I guess until then it's :fingerscrossed: for me. I still have Virtualdub on standby in case something does go wrong.

I still use convertx as well. The problems I've had with it were due to certain files (rmvb that sometimes have the audio out of sync) but those were the problems of the files, since they would be out of sync if I converted them to avi too. Now unfortunately the new version has gotten rid of support for ac3 audio so I have to use the old one for shows with that (many Korean ones) or they turn out all choppy. I read on their forums that they are working on a new version with an improved audio engine so hopefully that will be good. :fingerscrossed:

You always like picking on me, doncha. :beatyou: :hehe: I haven't had a problem with the newest version of ConvertX though. Let's hope I don't jinx myself... :fingerscrossed:

Well you've had the most problems with the program... And you seem to be dead set on suffering through it rather than use something more stable and reliable...

I can honestly say i've had no problems with ConvertX that weren't to do with the original file or subtitle file.

I looked at the DVD recorder specs that I have and it looks like I can't record using DVD-RAM. :( At least, that's how it looks like to me:

Um. I'm such an idiot. My brother told me that I can finalize DVD-RW discs and they STILL can be erased (I had thought "finalized" meant "FINALIZED"), so I am able to do the video tape--> DVD--> laptop without having to buy anything extra. I felt like such a dumbass when he told me that. :shamefulcry: :ashamed: And he called me that as well. :bonk:

So now I'm continuing with working the video tape to DVD transfer and I'm going to edit stuff with my laptop. Hopefully no more complaints or stupid questions from me for a long while. (yeah right) :beaten:

Thanks to beemie and everyone who tried to help me with all my idiotic questions and non-existing problems. I really appreciate all the help and advice.

My work comp rocks :) 12 minutes to copy a DVD, from putting the original in the drive, to removing the copy from the drive :victory:

Uh, copying a DVD just involves copying files... What's the big deal? :headscratch:

Actually, it makes an image of the disc and then burns that image to the new disc :P

It's a lot faster than my previous one.
