Hmm.

It's probably a little late, but maybe you should check that all of the subs files are in ASCII and not UTF-8... Not sure if that's the cause of the problem, but it's worth checking...

How do you check that?

When I open the srt files in Word it flags me if the files aren't ASCII...

Hmmm... I tried to open them in Word, but they're .ssa files... do you think that's the problem?

I've authored using ssa files before and didn't have a problem... at least I don't think I did.

Ack, .ssa files?

Hmm... I typically convert the .ssa files to .srt so I can edit and spell check the subtitles...

Well, that's what you sorta get with those all-in-one programs: if one thing is slightly off for whatever reason, you're screwed and left to headscratching...

For .aas (or was it .ass) files, I simple just change the extention to .srt and it works. Can you change the .ssa that way as well, or do you use a program to convert?

Sorry, but "ass" files? Who comes up with these names? :hehe: (Ok, I'll stop spamming now  )

I was waiting for you to point that out. Cori never fails. ;)

I'm so predictable. :shamefulcry:

And on topic, some time today I'm going to try for my second attempt of authoring Galileo. And as usual, I will post what the outcome will be. :fingerscrossed:

That might be luck/coincidence...

Well, since you can't open the .ssa file with Word, then it's not an ASCII text file, which is what an .srt file is...

I haven't made that kinda conversion in a while, but I think Subtitle Workshop can make the conversion...

O! Thanks for the link! Next time I'm on the bro's PC, I'll try it out. :good:

How about buying a Windows laptop? :P

It wouldn't be beneficial for me, in all seriousness. I work exclusively on Macs and it's a lot easier to bring things home for marking as opposed to staying in the lab late after the bell rings.

Besides, bro and sis have PCs I get to use when they're not on (which is rare, but it's something).

I think there's software that allows a Mac to emulate a Windows machine so you can run Windows software...

Which I think is pretty funny. :beaten:

Hai, that would be the way to go. Buy an Intel Lappy, and dual boot Windows and Mac OSX. Best of both worlds.

OT-ish: My bro bought a new comp for Christmas. It has a HD TV tuner card, which at the highest setting, records TV at the rate of 1 MB/sec in .mpg files  and he wants to convert these files to DVD.... time for ConvertXtoDVD again :) (He is pretty much computer-illiterate)

And unnecessary.

O! I have a favour to ask you! >>PMs<<

Just bought 100 spindle of Sony DVD-R at Staples for $23. Don't know how long this sale will last.... Sony DVD-R are top grade along with Tayo Yuden.

Wyn chan, I use subtitle workshop continously. It doesn't care what the extension is and figures out the subs automaticall. It will convert almost anything to about 50 different sub categories. It's also great for making corrections and changing timing and synchronysing subs if they are out of sync. You can also use it for line breaks etc.
However, I prefer SubResync for the final line break selection as well as font colors and position. :applaud:

Hmmm.

Well, I asked A-Oyaji to work with the raws I sent him for Kuitan 2, and the exact same thing happened as well. The subs remained the hard-to-read yellow. A-Oyaji said that the font colour/size/etc. must be embedded in the actual .ssa file. Bah.

So the good news is that I wasn't actually doing something wrong or missing a step, which is helping the confidence come back.

Bad thing is that we still haven't gotten it to work and Keps is still withouto Kuitan 2. :puppydog:

I think the .ssa files have their own properties embedded and they might override any external settings... .srt files are just text, nothing else, allowing the user to control font, size, and color... :victory:

Isn't that what I just said above? :headscratch: :hehe:
