Here's a ConvertX question: what happens if you made a mistake in your menus or similar.... Do you have to re-run the entire ConvertX process or can you start at the point where authoring begins?

If you had to re-run the entire process (which is hours long), that's gotta suck in a HUGE way...

Yes, you have to run the whole thing over again, which sucks, but is understandable since it does everything at the same time (conerting & authoring).

I figured as much.

That stinks. :bleh:

Yup.

But the data doesn't really get converted when authoring... It's still mpeg2 video... You're just rearranging things and adding titles, chapters, etc... Like organizing a book before publishing. :)

Ahhhhh so ka...!

So then, why would you need to convert the file type in the first place? Is it because some authoring programs don't support certain file types? Or does one ALWAYS have to convert, and I just didn't realize it because I use convertX which does it automatically for me?

Yea it does, but screwing up on the menu is a really rare thing. :)

Like I said, DVD-Video is ALWAYS mpeg2... Raws are almost always DivX/xVid (avi).

You can't author a DVD with avi files.

ConvertX does the conversion for you, so you're oblivious to the conversion... And that's why it takes so long to convert.

The authoring takes significantly less time than the conversion, because there's no altering of the data.

Until it happens to you. :P

Great. I am so pissed off at myself. I was gung-ho about recording a Shiro drama that's playing on TV and I didn't realize that I recorded it on the HDD instead of a DVD. Now I find out that I can't edit out commercials. I feel like a f**king idiot. :banghead:

I wonder if there's a way to edit them somehow. Any clues?

If you can get the data to your PC you can edit out the commercials. :)

O I see! Hmmmm... it usually takes me an hour (and this includes burning time) to author a disc with 4 episodes. Is that long, comparatively?

To just author?

When I author a disc with TMPGEnc DVD Author, it takes about 10-12 minutes and another eight minutes to burn an 8X disc.

Ummm... well to use ConvertXtoDVD, which does the converting for me. So to convert, author, and burn, the whole process takes an hour for one disc of 4 episodes.

Your previous post said to author, not to convert.

Okay... but you know that I use ConvertXtoDVD to do it, and you said earlier that convertX does the conversation automatically. So for me, when I use convertX, I'm authoring. It converts on its own. So the whole process for me, using convertXtoDVD takes about an hour.

If you don't want to answer my question, don't.

I tried the program that beem uses and I found that it does take longer to convert and author as compared to the Convertx one. Maybe a couple hours or so, but it doesn't really tell you how long it'll take as opposed to Convertx. The tradeoff is that you can tweak beem's program to fit what you want (different menu set-up, edit the mpeg file, etc.)

Well, I made a copy to disc, so maybe I can just put that on my computer? Ack, seems like this'll be another headache waiting to start.

O I see! Thanks for the straight answer. :)

That's a good trade-off, if you can actual edit the look and feel of the menus and stuff! If I had my own PC, I'd experiment with the different programs. Right now I use what I need, so it's okay. I mean, my authoring isn't that bad right?

Your authoring is really good. :) The only thing I'd change is the titles on the menu. Instead of keeping the episode name as is, I usually put "Episode 1," "Episode 2," etc. Of course, that was the Attetion Please disc, which I believe was your first attempt, so I'm sure by now you changed the names. :)

I do change the names now! :woot: I wasn't aware that you could do that before, and AP was the first I'd ever done. But I do change them now. I play with the colour of text now, too.

He's married?!

I know he's not gay and only acts the part (he looks totally different without all the leather!) but I had no idea he was married! That's one lucky woman. He's got a lot of moves, he does.
