Africa no yoru [アフリカの夜]
Aishiteiru to Ittekure [愛していると言ってくれ]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
On my list of best dramas of all time! A very touching story about an aspiring actress and a mute painter. Toyokawa's performance is enrapturing!
Another Heaven~Eclipse [アナザヘブン]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
A drama riding on the shirt tails of the classic horror drama Ring Saishusho. Another Heaven is not as scary as Ring by any stretch of the imagination though. It's more sci-fi than anything else. It helps to have watched the movie beforehand.
Beach boys [ビーチボーイズ]
(Watched)
Beautiful life [ビューティフルライフ]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Another KimuTaku classic that for some reason seemed to fall short in my opinion. Tokiwa Takako did a spectacular job, as usual, but KimuTaku's performance fell short. But, definetely still worth a watch. Have a kleenex box handy!
Cheap Love [チープラブ]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
One of the first dramas I ever watched. At the time, I thought this drama was awesome, but now that I'm a seasoned drama viewer, I know that it falls short, mainly because of the lack of on screen chemistry between Sorimachi Takashi and Tsuruta Mayu. Still, if you're looking for a drama about the less reputable side of Tokyo, and at the same time a love story, this is a drama to see.
Dessin [デッサン]
(Watched)
Drama I watched two years ago. I vaguely recall it being pretty good. Osawa Takao fans will like this one.
Dokushin seikatsu [独身生活]
GTO [麻辣教師]
Rating: 10/10
I LOVE THIS DRAMA! Not just for the spectacular performances by Sorimachi and Matsushima, but also by the lesser characters. This is the drama that made me a die-hard Kubozuka Yosuke fan. Great drama about a less than conventional teacher and his problematic class. The only problem with this drama in my opinion is that it's too short!
Handoku [ハンドク]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Nagase as a ex-gang member turned into doctor trainee. VERY similar to Nishi Ikebukuro Koen. For some reason fell a bit short, but still worth a watch.
Hoshi no kinka 1 [星の金貨]
Hoshi no kinka Season 2 / Zoku hoshi no kinka [續。星の金貨]
Hyakunen no monogatari [百年の物語]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
An interesting drama special that is a tribute to the 20th century. Matsushima Nanako plays three different generations of women in Japan, during the early 1900's as an aristocrat, a teacher during post WWII, and a businesswoman of today. The drama is divided up into three different sections, and each section is truly a love story. Matsushima Nanako is the only actress that stays constant throughout the series, all of the other characters change. My personal favorite is the third section, with Watabe Atsuro. Definetely something to watch!
Ichiban taisetsu na hito [いちばん大切なひと]
Ikebukuro West Gate Park [池袋ウエストゲートパーク]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
Another one of my personal favorites. A controversial drama about gang life in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. Nagase Tomoya, Kubozuka Yosuke, Kato Ai, Yamashita Tomohisa, and Koyuki star in this drama. Nagase Tomoya plays the role of a Makoto, a 20 yr. street punk with connections to the leader of an uprising gang, G-Boys, lead by Takashi, Kubozuka Yosuke. One day Nagase and his friend run into Kato Ai, her friend, and Yamashita Tomohisa. After a week of hanging out and doing all sorts of nefarious things, Rika (Kato Ai's friend) makes a move on Nagase, they sorta start dating, and then Rika shows up dead at a love hotel. Makoto, using his connections, attempts to find Rika's killer, and things get crazy from there. This drama I HIGHLY recommend! To me the drama flows smoothly, it's not boring at all, and the last few episodes are a huge surprise. Watch it!
Jinbe [じんべえ]
Kamisama mou sukoshi dake [神様、もう少しだけ]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
As much as I hate to admit, this drama is EXTREMELY good. This the only drama that I can stand Fukada Kyoko in. She and Kaneshiro Takeshi do a spectucular job of portraying extremely poignant emotions as a cynical song writer and a high school age girl with HIV in love. The first episode didn't really appeal to me for some reason, but I really became involved with the story as I continued watching. I also thought that Haruhiko Kato did an outstanding job as well. WARNING, due to the nature of the drama, prepare to break out the tissues a LOT.
Keizoku [ケイゾク]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
This has to be one of my favorite dramas of all time! The casting is great, the leads are superb, the cases a interesting (although usually the fun is just trying to figure out how the criminal commited the crime, you usually know how did it within the first ten minutes) and the interaction between the two leads never fails to crack me up. The later part of the series is where you really get to see Watabe Atsuro act. This series made me a Watabe fan. A note though, if you're going to see this series, make sure you have the continuation (special, movie) on hand, otherwise the ending is going to greatly upset you.
Kiken na kankei [危険な関係]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
Despite the fact that Toykawa Etsushi is the lead in this drama, it fell WAY short. Sometimes it doesn't matter how good the actor is if the storyline bites. A rather odd tale where Etsushi is a taxi driver who ends up killing (so he believes) an ex-classmate of his and impersonates him as a new supermarket chain owner. Blah.
Kindaichi shonen no jikenbo 1 [金田一少年の事件簿 1]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Classic detective fun. I like watching this when I only am interesting in watching something short. It's very easy not to watch this whole series at one time. Dohmoto Tsuyoshi does a good job of portraying the at school typical hormonal boy/detective genius.
Kinyoubi no Koibitotachi e [金曜日の恋人たちへ]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched)
Romantic fluff between an "Shomuni" (Fujiwara Norika) and a security guard/brilliant piano player (Katsunori Takahashi) at the building where she works. Love triangle. The third member, Fujiwara's friend and Katsunori's ex-girlfriend, will drive you up a wall. I can't STAND that character type!
Koi no kamisama [恋の神様]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
Could have been a better drama IF 1) there wasn't a monkey faced boy playing the lead (you expect me to believe that with THAT face he becomes Johnny's Jr. material?!?) And *SPOILER* Kimura Yoshino didn't chose monkey boy over Kashiwabara Takashi.
Koishite Shinitai [恋して死にたい]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Best Kinki Kids drama I've seen (and ever though they're not posted up on this list, I've seen a bunch) Dohmoto Tsuyoshi does a wonderful job here. Again, the only thing that keeps me from rating higher is Fukada Kyoko, she just irritates me. Still, very heart warming to watch. For those who are in one-sided love relationships, and want proof that if you really love the guy and are persistant enough, you will get together, watch this^^.
Koori no sekai [冰の世界]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Mystery/Suspense drama about an ice cold teacher suspected a murdering her ex's and an insurance investigator suspicious of the teacher. Yutaka Takenouchi and Matsushima Nanako are incredible here, and the lesser character put on a great performance as well. A must see!
Kyousoukyoku [協奏曲]
Kyumei byoto 24 ji [救命病棟24時]
Rating: 4/10 (Watched)
Ack, avoid this. I couldn't even watch it all the way through. If you're a hard core ER fan you'll probably like this though, but it was just one medical emergency after another. If you like hospital dramas, there are plenty of others that are better. Bleach.
Lipstick [リップスティック]
Long vacation [ロングバケーション]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Classic classic drama. Great romance, great story, great characters. Probably my favorite KimuTaku drama. Nice happy ending too^_^.
Love complex [ラブコンプレックス]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
Despite what half of the drama watching population says about this drama, it's on of MY favorites. It's a not a love story at all, in fact, it's about all the twisted ways love can show itself. All the actors/actress were very good, with incredible performances by Karasawa Toshiaki and Sorimachi Takashi. Not a light drama, so pay attention when you're watching it, or you're be totally in the blue in the end (scratch that, most likely you'll be lost no matter how much attention you've paid to it, this drama pulls a rug out from underneath you!) The ONLY drama that I've watched where it left me at a loss for words in the end and made me turn around and watch it again. A drama for the more unconventional viewer.
Love Revolution [ラブレボリューション]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Romantic drama starring Esumi Makiko and Fujiki Naohito. This drama gave Naohito his fame of today. First part better than second though. For some reason this drama reminded me a lot of Overtime, probably because of the fact that it's about Esumi bouncing back and forth between two guys. Overall good though.
Love Story
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
Personally, my top choice for when in the mood for romantic fluff. All of the characters are strong, especially Nakayama Miho and Toyokawa Estushi. Kato Haruhiko, Katori Shingo, and Yuka also give good performances. The ending is sugar coated. Cute^_^!
Majo no jouken [魔女の条件]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought & Watched)
Another classic drama with picture perfect actors (Matsushima Nanako and Hideaki Takizawa) Bit of a controversial story about the love between a teacher (Matsushima) and her 16 yr. old student (Hideaki). Definetely is something to see, and the theme song is gorgeous!
Manatsu no Merry Christmas [真夏のメリークリスマス]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched)
Despite the great cast (Takenouchi Yutaka and Nakatani Miki) if fell flat because of the story, rather dull. Watch this drama for the interactions between the two leads, they're both terrific actors. The last episode is the best in my opinion.
Mouichido kisu [もう一度キス]
Mukashi no otoko [昔の男]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Just about the sultriest drama I've seen so far. Fujiwara Norika and Osawa Takao star in this drama as ex-lovers who meet up again and discover that they're still as hot for each other as before. The only problem is that Osawa Takao is married, and Fujiwara Norika is dating. Nethertheless, they proceed to have an affair. The drama is somewhat thought provoking as you see the effect the affair has on not just the wife and boyfriend, but also the main characters themselves. You can't help but cheer for them though, even though they're committing a crime. Probably my favorite Fujiwara Norika drama.
Mukodono! [ムコ殿/女婿大人]
Rating: 5/10 (Bought & Watched)
Interesting drama where you get to see Nagase Tomoya act really "kakkoi" and REALLY "dasai" He stars as a popular male singer/songwriter who although outward appearances show him as kakkoi, in reality he's a big "dasai" nerd, who'd cute in a dorky way. He falls in love with a normal girl, proposes to her, and then they have to deal with her family and his popularity, and not letting the secret of their engagement slip out into the general public. Really not a bad drama at all, just for some reason not my type.
Naomi [ナオミ]
Rating: 4/10 (Watched)
Ehh, skip this GTO rip off drama. Fujiwara Norika takes the lead as a character type even worse than Onizuka. Whether it's wearing EXTRMELY short skirts, blatantly flirting with her own students by giving them her cell phone number is front of class, or any number of other things, she's not going to win any girl scout cookies. Even though she might win the students over in the end, you don't feel any kind of joy whatsoever. Yeach.
Nemureru mori [眠れる森]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Mystery drama written before Koori no Seikai by the same director. Nakayama Miho stars as a loving fiance who for some reason seems to have almost no memories of her past. While going through some old stuff, she stumbles across a love letter written by a boy she never met 15 yrs ago (Kimura Takuya)and on a whim decides to meet him. Things get interesting from there...
News no onna [ニュースの女]
Nisennen no koi [二千年の恋]
Over Time [オーバー・タイム]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Good drama, with many famous actors (Sorimachi Takashi, Esumi Makiko, Kimura Yoshino, Haruhiko Kato to name a few) Only thing that killed this drama was the ending, a bit of unrequited love on my part. The two characters I was rooting to get together didn't~_~. Still, good to watch.
Perfect love [パーフェクトラブ!]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
I started watching this drama, quit after the first episode (for some reason I didn't like it) and then one month later tried again and ended up staying up all night watching it. Go figure. It actually is a good drama. I particuarly liked watching Fukuyama and Kimura Yoshino interact with each other, they cracked me up. Nice happy end drama as well (I'm really starting to like happy endings, too many dramas lately end up killing off someone in the very end for no reason)
Psychometrer eiji 1
Psychometrer eiji Season 2
Rasen [らせん]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Ring Saishusho continuation. Usually I don't like sequels, but this one wasn't so bad. I still prefer the original though. This is the story of what happens when Sadako leaves the well... In some ways even freakier than Ring. There is a sense of completion in the end, which could be appealing to viewers.
Ring: Saishusho [リング 最終章]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
The mother of all Japanese horror. The infamous story of the cursed tape where if you watch it you will die in 13 days. All the actors put on incredible performances here. Don't watch this at 2:00 in the morning, by yourself, with the lights off as I did though. You'll end up scaring the bejeezes out of yourself.
Saimin [催眠]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
Interesting drama about hynoptism. Seto Asaka and Inagaki Goro star in the drama as the patient with memory gaps and her ex-shrink-turned lover-turned shrink again co-lead. Seto Asaka is a normal girl with the exception that she has days where she can't remember what she has done the previous days. Normally, no problem, except that her previous ex-boyfriends keep on dropping dead due to what is guessed to be hyponotic suggestions. Inagaki Goro plays the part of the shrink in love with Seto Asaka trying to free her from her problems and get to the bottom of the situation. Rather intesting drama, and not at scary. Better than the movie.
Seikimatsu no uta [世紀末の詩]
Strawberry on the shortcake [ストロベリー・オンザ・ショートケーキ]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched)
Hideaki Takizawa, Fukada Kyoko, Kubozuka Yosuke, and Uchiyama Rina star in this teen flick about one-sided love in high school. Not a bad drama, I loved Kubozuka Yosuke in it, but Fukada Kyoko has a tendency to get on my nerves. Am I the only one who thinks she's a major ditz? Her smile is maybe too pure, it looks like she's got maybe 2 brain cells in her head. Hence the reason for my review rating.
Summer snow
Rating: 5/10 (Bought & Watched)
I know that the rest of the drama world loves this drama, but for reason it fell WAY short to me, most likely because of the abundancy of Johnny's Jr. like characters, most of them have just started their acting careers, so they're still a little rough around the edges. I thought that Hirose Ryoko and Dohmoto Tsuyoshi made a weird on screen couple, mostly because of their character personalities. It didn't seem to me like they were in love at all. Also, Tsuyoshi tried a LITTLE too hard to perfect his chracter, sometimes it seems a little forced, not natural. The one actor that blew me away with his acting skills what the brother who was deaf. Before I realized who he was (the student from GTO who was always getting picked on) I actually thought that he did have hearing problems. All in all, so-so.
Suna no ue no koibitotachi [砂の上の恋人たち]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched)
I already wrote a long review for this. Refer to the info page on this drama on jdorama.com database for my review.
Taburoido [タブロイド]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Tokiwa Takako and Tomosaka Rie star in this drama about a tabloid newspaper. Katayama (Tokiwa) makes a faux pas and is degraded to having to work for Yukan Top, a low grade tabloid paper. Katayama realizes though that through this newspaper she can expose the truth and also have the chance to prove a murderer innocent.

A Synopsis for those interested... [Rating: 6/10]
Since no one has written a synopsis or review for this drama yet, I figured I might as well attempt to.. Here's the question: If you are responsible for the (though accidental) death of a girl, then end up falling mutually head over heals with her boyfriend, can the two of you ever be together, because of your previous crime?" This is pretty much what the drama is about. Nagase Tomoya, his girlfriend Kanno Miho, and their friend Okina Megumi are on a trip in Australia where they accidentally run into Honjou Manami and her friend. Through a weird trick of fate, the two groups ending up meeting again at a beach, where due to unlucky circumstances, Honjou Manami ends up hitting Kanno Miho with a dune buggy. Although Kanno Miho says that nothing is wrong with her, and allows Honjou Manami and her friend to leave, she ends up dying later from a head concusion. The story takes off from there where Honjou Manami discovers and tries to deal with the fact that she caused someone's death, Nagase Tomoya shows intense hatred of Honjou Manami to cover up the fact that he's really falling in love with her, and vice versa, and Okina Megumi trying to support Nagase and make Manami pay for the death of her friend. Things get even more twisted when it turns out that the lawyer Nagase, etc. has hired against Manami turns out to be Manami's boyfriend. All in all, it's on really big messy love situation where the only true couple is Nagase and Honjou, but they have to overcome their own feelings of guilt for falling in love. And that's just the beginning. Now for my review: I thought the story was interesting, although it was confusing sometimes with all the love triangles, squares, and one-sided love situations. The only thing that keeps me from giving this drama a higher rating is that Honjou Manami got on my nerves in the second part of the series where she's trying to atone for her crime by doing whatever Kanno Miho's mother tells her to do. It's really quite pathetic what she's willing to do (be prepared to sleep with men that the mother has told her to.) She acts really whiny. All in all not bad though.
