I enjoyed the first two thirds of this drama but the last part was a bit of a let down because everything became very predictable. Nevertheless it is still worth watching and all the cast gave a really good performance.

I want to give it 9.5... I didn't give it 10 because it was too easy to guess the ending but this is a great story. The cast couldn't be better and they're very faithful to the characters of the manga this drama is based on. I'm very impressed with MatsuJun's acting + dancing and the chemistry between Sumire and Momo is perfect. This one is a must-see, it's so different from any other dorama I've seen with a bold and original story.

It's pitiful that a good actor like Tsuyoshi has to be paired up with someone like Kyoko. The gap between their respective acting abilities is so huge that it detracts from the story. Sure, Kyoko is cute but she doesn't have the slightest talent in acting - she can't even cry convincingly. I liked the other characters: Kaori and her fiance, the elevator girl, the boxing coach (who played Makoto's dad in Ningen Shikkaku) and Toko's lazy workmate. The story is predictable but is still enjoyable if you fast-forward every time Kyoko is on screen... which is unfortunately an awful lot. I would have given this an 8 if they'd cast a decent actress instead of Kyoko.

I would like to give it more than 6/10 but the plot doesn't deserve it... the misunderstandings and missed opportunities between Momoko and Shunpei are very repetitive. It's still fun to watch though and Asaka Seto is very good in this. Koichi is adorable as the clumsy, indecisive Shunpei.

Stand UP!!
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
This drama will keep you entertained from beginning to end and it has some meaningful moments too. It's not for everyone (some jokes are on the gross side) but I found it very enjoyable. All the actors are good esp. Anne Suzuki who does a great job in a difficult role.
Strawberry on the shortcake [ストロベリー・オンザ・ショートケーキ]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
The 4 main characters are annoying, manipulative and boring. This drama left me pretty much indifferent because badly written characters don't generate any emotions. For instance, the death of Yui's mother made no impact whatsoever since she had so little screen time and we never got a chance to know anything about her. The story gets better near the end but not enough to make up for all the previous dull and repetitive episodes.

Mother
a must-watch [Rating: 9/10]
Wonderful drama, great performances from all the cast. The main strength of this drama is the script, the writers treated difficult topics like child abuse and adoption with sensitivity and never took the easy way out. The backstory of Reina/Tsugumi's mother is quite an eye-opener, the drama makes no excuses for her failure to protect her daughter while helping you to understand how she ended up the way she did. There was just one thing I found annoying about this drama: too much of the dialogue is whispered, often in scenes where it makes no sense to whisper.
Yamada Taro Monogatari [山田太郎ものがたり]
quite disappointing [Rating: 5/10]
Somehow the writers managed to turn a wickedly funny manga into a sentimental crapfest. They also missed out the best storylines which doesn't make any sense. The cast all did a great job from the teachers to Tarou's younger siblings but good acting can't redeem a bad script. Nino did his best to portray Tarou with the poor material he was given to work with. This is a sad example of writers who don't know how to translate manga into live action drama successfully.
